Devotional Guide (Click play to start audio narration)

In the previous chapter in John 10, Jesus made it very clear who He was. He said “I and the Father are one.” In John 11, Jesus proves this claim in how He was with Martha and Mary after losing their brother, a close friend of Jesus. If you are still processing your belief in Jesus, consider how a human being that was not acting on God’s behalf could perform such an incredible miracle.

After watching the next video, I would ask you take the time to stop and really give thought to this passage. Humble yourself, and ask God to reveal Himself personally to you. God is faithful and will see the disposition of your heart.

Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. [Deu_4:29-30]

(Jeremiah 29:13 AMPC)

Lazarus Dies (2:26)

How many times do difficult circumstances come and we don’t understand why God is allowing them? Part of following Jesus is learning to trust His judgement. He said to His disciples…

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

(John 16:33 AMPC)

What does it mean to overcome the world? In God’s timing all things will be set right. His Kingdom has come to Earth in pockets, where Jesus is present so the Kingdom of God is present. He has authority over nature to do the impossible. Jesus challenges us to trust Him in difficult circumstances.

Mary and Martha Mourn (3:28)

As a human being, Jesus wept. He felt pain and could empathize with Martha and Mary. He can empathize with us also. He knows that we are in a fallen world filled with difficulty and pain. He wants to be with us in that pain. Sometimes He will bring a miracle and sometimes He will simply be with us in our pain. Picture yourself as one of the mourners with Mary and Martha that day. What would be going through your heart and mind as you witnessed the events in the video to follow?

Lazarus Rises (6:51)

Jesus is the only one who has authority over the grave. He speaks and people come to life.

Jesus said to her, I am [Myself] the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on) Me, although he may die, yet he shall live;

(John 11:25 AMPC)
